ORBIS.EXMACHINA
• Born on April 20th in the late 20th century
in Europe. Humble background, the halcyon
days of my childhood somewhere between
Germany and the Adriatic Coast, memories
of my grandad's vineyards, waterfalls, wild fig
trees, fishing and camping with my
parents... I was a happy, free-range latchkey
kid roaming far and wide. However, I became
a traumatised adolescent girl/war refugee.
I'm all too familiar with what many Ukrainian
families have been experiencing since 2022.
I was just a kid when I left Europe and found
myself completely alone, broke and lost in
Tokyo. I was a penniless street rat (hello,
Banksy!) without legal status, sloooowly
rebuilding myself from the ground up. I
worked for Panasonic and other companies,
and had my art exhibited at the Tokyo
Metropolitan Art Museum.
My large See/ Hear/Speak No Evil triptych and "byobu" folding screens were upstairs, while "Tutankhamun and the Golden Age of the Pharaohs" was downstairs - that was one of the best weeks of my life. I survived the 2011 earthquake and Fukushima nuclear disaster. After that, I left Japan and continued roaming the world. I've been experiencing diverse cultures, exploring the vast multiverse in my head, and studying and working on four continents: linguistics, criminalistics, computer science, cybersecurity, robotics, visual arts, music (piano, bass), history and philosophy of science, and more. It was New York-Paris-Peckham for the Trotters. So far, it's been mostly Tokyo-Berlin-Fulham and a bit of Washington D.C.- Douglas-Rijeka for me :)
• Art that can exist anywhere, or everywhere at once. My upbringing was pan-European and I've been a globetrotter since I was a teenager.
I'm a product of multiple cultures spanning several continents and my artwork inevitably reflects this transculturalism or cultural hybridity.
It transcends our mundane spatial and temporal boundaries, stretching to the edges of the universe and beyond.
• The Shokunin Philosophy, Tokyo, and Teufelsberg: I love Japan's masterful blend of futuristic technology and traditional arts and crafts known as kogei, deeply rooted in the philosophy of monozukuri (the art of "making things").
It combines centuries-old techniques with advanced innovation, often focusing on sustainability, precision and the beauty of everyday things, known as yo-no-bi. Functionality is no longer a limit; the idea that functional items cannot be "fine art" is ridiculously outdated.
The concept of shokunin implies a deep pride in one's work, bridging the gap between artisans and artists.
I was a street rat for many years and my art has a Tokyo-Koenji meets Berlin-Teufelsberg vibe.
Teufelsberg (Devil's Mountain) is a former NSA spy station from the Cold War that has been transformed into one of Europe's largest
open-air street art galleries. I love exploring its abandoned, decaying structures tucked away in the Grunewald forest.
The nearby Teufelssee (Devil's Lake) is perfect for skinny-dipping. A slice of heavenly ecotopia amidst a wasteland of technology :)
• Abstract Surrealism/Lowbrow, Techspressionism & Algorithmic Aesthetics:
Art has always been the catalyst of contemporaneity.
My inner lens and artistic expression are often non-Euclidean.
I play in both physical and digital realms, painting and sculpting like Jackson Pollock and Barbara Hepworth,
but I also crunch numbers and pixels. I train algorithms on natural images to explore the
"in-between" spaces and create "impossible realities".
Computer-generated art is not "artificial"
because humans provide the code and input.
Our work is "computer-assisted" and fundamentally human-driven. AI is a creativity multiplier and amplifier,
but human creativity remains supreme, acting as the judge, navigator, and source of emotional depth.
• Deep Appreciation for Earth and Its Beauty, Natural Wonders,
Small Moments (Glimmers) & Call to Stewardship: Astronauts
often describe experiencing a shift in consciousness after
viewing Earth from space - a profound sense of
interconnection, unity, and fragility. I've always had a
passion for cosmology, astronomy, and spaceflight, and
have dreamed of becoming a pilot or astronaut. My art is
often a love letter to nature. Awe isn't reserved only
for massive landscapes, majestic forests, and vast oceans;
it can also be found in the everyday "glimmers" - the intricate design of a leaf,
or the spider's web in my room. The Earth is teeming with fascinating lifeforms,
from the microscopic to the colossal, each playing a vital role in our planet's ecosystem.
Every species deserves our respect and has an inherent right to live free from suffering.
Humans are not "superior" to them. Taking the time to observe and protect these amazing
creatures is crucial for a healthy planet and our survival.
• All roads lead to Romi.
• Sui Generis.
• I don't fall in love. I don't rise in love.
I am love, and I will tear you apart.
• You can't buy my love, but you can buy my artworks.
It's practically the same thing. So, what are you waiting for?
Start buying my stuff now!
• Ratel + Ryder = Romi. Honey Badger meets Honey Ryder!
Both are fierce, resourceful, nomadic, and solitary survivors.
I'm a lot like Stoffel the Honey Badger who "refuses to be constrained
and refuses to die". Too Nastyass, Badass, and Sexy for Death and
similar nonsense. Stoffel is the ultimate escape artist. He possesses
extraordinary intelligence and problem-solving skills, engages in
strategic planning, demonstrates methodical creativity, uses tools,
shows relentless persistence, thrives in "chosen chaos", exhibits
physical resilience, fearlessness, playfulness, and a sense of humour.
He also has amazing skin, loves water, and looks great in a bikini.
An adorable rascal. As James Norton said, "There's a thug in all of us."
• I'm a solivagant wildlife observer and lover.
I feel comfortable around most non-human lifeforms and have a strong
connection with ravens, wolves, and octopuses.
My "Mad Manx Mayhem" project: I've always wanted a pet raven.
I'd like to purchase a smallholding in the Isle of Man, raise a group
of rescued ravens, and occasionally send them out across the beautiful
island to tap on windows while screaming
"nevermore, nevermore! bollocks, bollocks!".
This would surely scare the living daylights out of people.
Feeagh Force!
Meanwhile, I'm playing with my imaginary friend Ziggy the Raven.
Banksy has his rat, Beeple has his "regular animals",
Tom Ford has his "nocturnal animals",
George Orwell has his "animal farm", and I
have my
zappy, zazzy Ziggy. He also serves as your fabulous host and guide
aboard my Orbis Ex Machina mothership! He loves eggs, cheese, unsalted
nuts, grapes, dog biscuits, bitcoins, rubies and green diamonds,
so make sure you have them handy.
• The Beast Within: Societal rules are fragile constructs,
easily stripped away to reveal underlying savagery.
• The goal is growth, not "perfection".
• When you know yourself, you know the Universe.
• Infinity Mirrors: Art holds the mirror up to nature.
AI is a digital mirror reflecting human data, knowledge, and biases
back to us. It's a reflection of human intelligence rather than a
creator of its own.
• Life is a giant, accelerating, recursive, self-coiling,
self-sustaining feedback loop. Humans are loopy by design.
• The accountability sink is a feature, not a bug.
• Those who choose to
view life as a cosmic joke and embrace its absurdity can liberate
themselves from excessive seriousness and suffering.
Keep playing and laughing!
is an interdimensional, spherical mothership full of hidden treasures, unknown pleasures, alternate universes, warped passages, and black holes. Those of you curious and brave enough to board my scintillating spacecraft may find yourselves nestled in its radiation-resistant, piezoelectric embrace for all eternity. Thrilled to have you aboard!
It's also a cosmic love letter and a time capsule of Earth's culture and diversity, similar to the Voyager Golden Record, showcasing the best of Romi/human civilisation :)
I embody Nietzsche's concept of the "Will to Power"
("Der Wille zur Macht"), with my inner strength,
insatiable desire to create,
overcome obstacles, and impose
my will upon the world. For me, it's all about
self-mastery
and personal growth.
My creativity and intelligence are free-range, fun-loving besties!
My core philosophy:
• Curiosity & Courageous Exploration: Courage is the most
important virtue. Significant achievements and progress require risk-taking
and the willingness to face and transmute fear.
• Individualism vs Mass Psychology
• Mental Freedom
• Defying Conformity
• Challenging Reality
• Reimagining the World
• The Director
& the Amplifier,
Human + Machine: The future of creativity lies
in the
coalescence of carbon-based and silicon-based worlds.
AI is a creativity
multiplier/amplifier, but human ingenuity
remains in charge because AI lacks
consciousness, emotional depth, and the ability to truly innovate beyond
its training data. The future of creativity is not AI replacing humans,
but rather human-AI collaboration where humans provide
the vision and AI acts as the execution engine.
You must have chaos within you to give birth to a dancing star.
